Almeida Theatre
Coutts is proud to have deepened its partnership with the Almeida Theatre by sponsoring their 2007 Fundraising Benefit evening. The Almeida Theatre commissioned six world-class playwrights to each write a link in a play. The final result, A Chain Play, was performed for one night only as part of the fundraising benefit.

A Chain Play, directed by Tom Cairns, featured Michele Austin, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett , Jenny Jules, Alastair Mackenzie, Danny Sapani and Jodie Whittaker, and was produced with the help of the theatre’s Benefit Committee.
The first link of A Chain Play was written in November 2006. Each writer was given two weeks to add a scene of between ten and fifteen minutes before passing the script on to the next writer. Samuel Adamson, Moira Buffini, David Hare, Charlotte Jones, Frank McGuinness and Roy Williams have all contributed. A two-week rehearsal period for the actors culminated with the performance on the 23rd March.
We asked award-winning playwright Roy Williams how he felt starting the Chain Play and what he thought may have become of the characters he created. This one–off performance is the product of the passion that is evident in everything the Almeida produces, and it is this passion which forms the very foundation of the Almeida-Coutts relationship.
