Newbreed Freight Ltd, has been  named ‘Best UK Family Business, Northern Region’, in the £1-5m turnover category of the Coutts Prize for Family Business 2007/8. The company will now go on to compete in the £1-5M category at the national finals to be held in central London on Thursday 5 June 2008. Newbreed Freight Ltd were nominated for the award by Neil Bamber of Livesey Spottiswood Ltd.

The Preston Brook in Cheshire based international freight forwarding business began operation in 1981. They arrange the export and import of goods from the UK to any part of the world. This is done by sea, air freight and road. Key specialist areas include USA, China and Brazil. Air freight is an important part of the business.

Lucy Armstrong Regional Chairman of the evaluation committee commented:

  • the company’s response to the changing needs of a fast-moving industry and their ability to work through difficult periods whilst keeping their focus on customer service;
  • the emphasis on the training and development of both family and non-family staff; and
  • the ongoing support for community and charitable activities through the investment of time and money.
